Increasing Basic Literacy is Changing Lives

I found in the March 15th edition of The Greenville News an article about literacy rates in Greenville.  Imagine not being able to read to your children, understand prices in the supermarket, or read directions on a prescription bottle!  This is a reality for roughly 32 million in our country, as 14 percent of Americans can't read. 21 percent read below a fifth grade level.  There are 56,000 adults in Greenville County who do not have the literacy skills needed for employment and do not have a GED or high school diploma.  The Greenville Literacy Association and Rotary Family Literacy Center have created a partnership and constructed a center for adult students to take literacy courses.  This is great because getting an education is the first step to a better life and to preventing and ending most of the worlds issues.
