The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
The Secret Life of Bees tells the story of a girl named Lily Owens, and it takes place in South Carolina in 1964. Her entire life had been shaped around the blurred memory of the afternoon her mother was killed. After Lilly's "stand-in-mother" got the both of them in trouble, Lily decided to run away to Tiburon, South Carolina-a town that held the secrets to her mothers past. She was taken in by a trio of black beekeeping sisters and learned more about herself from them. I like and recommend this book because it was interesting and funny, but it also shows you how real racism and antifeminist was while empowering women and colored people.
