Vanishing

The book Vanishing by Bruce Brooks is about a girl named Alice who's parents get a divorce and she has to go live with her alcoholic mom and stepfather who doesn't like her and doesn't care that everyone knows it. In Alice's perfect world she would have gotten to go live with her dad who understands her more. When Alice suddenly gets bronchitis and has to be hospitalized she decided this was the perfect thing that would keep her from having to return home. Whenever Alice is in the hospital she becomes good friends with her roommate Rex who will eventually die from the disease he has. Alice then begins to refuse to eat so that she will have to remain in the hospital. Once Rex goes into coma she must decide if she should break her fast to be able to go see him. I like this book mostly because it was very dramatic and you didn't really expect anything that did happen was going to happen. I definitely would recommend this book to everyone.
