Hitler Youth: Growing Up in Hitler's Shadow

This book was written by Susan Campbell Bartoletti. It is about how Hitler controlled more than just the military, he controlled the entire country of Germany. Mainly this book explains parts of the WWII history and shows the true extent of the power that Hitler had over everyone. The Hitler Youth began as a voluntary organization to support Hitler, but it quickly became a way for Hitler to control the youth. Soon the Hitler Youth was not voluntary and they were being used in much the same way as the military.
This book tells true stories of children in the Hitler Youth and children that were brave enough to speak up. It is truly horrific and fascinating. This book made me realize how serious the Holocaust is and the effect it had on many children. I recommend this book to those of you who are interested in history and want to get a deeper meaning of the Holocaust.

  1. The reason that he gained power was because he saw the country in deperssion after the frist WW1. So he took control over the vulnerable people and slowly took over Germany.
